We have had a long day (and it's only 2 PM)!
We started our morning with two ultrasound appointments (one for her legs and the other for her liver and bladder). To get to the ultrasounds, mom has to be moved to a gurney type bed for transport. We then take the elevator down to the basement where there is a tunnel that connects all of the hospitals. Mom was shocked to see that the ceiling under the OSU hospitals is BLUE.
Her first ultrasound was to see if there were any blood clots in her legs. We then went further into the maze for a liver and bladder ultrasound.
We learned that mom has a small blood clot in her right calf. They are going to prescribe blood thinners for the next few weeks to take care of the clot. The doctors don't seem too concerned over the clot and said it has a "1% chance of going to her chest". PT was canceled this morning due to finding the clot in an abundance of caution.
Though PT was canceled this morning, we got to have a nice talk with our main PT guy over his goals for mom. He has 4 goals he believes she can accomplish by the time she leaves Dodd..
1. For her to be able turn herself in bed, sit up and lay down on her own
2. To be able to go to and from a chair to the bed, or to the bathroom, with supervision.
3. Walk 150 feet with "contact guard assistance" (someone that is there for support but not necessarily helping, using one or two hands).
4. Walk upstairs with minimum assistance (less than 25% help).
The therapist today said, "It's going to take a lot of hard work, but you seem like a hard-working gal." I think we can all agree with that statement!
We are hoping she will be cleared for afternoon PT today or will resume PT sessions tomorrow morning. She is kicking butt in OT (Occupation Therapy) right now! She is focusing on moving her arms and wrists today.
As mentioned in the Daily Details, mom has a tentative discharge date of August 19th. PT is hoping for as much time as possible to work with her and get her to the best place possible before she leaves. Her therapists and doctors will continue to meet each week to assess her recovery and discuss her discharge date.
