Mom has made some exciting progress in the past few weeks! Updated- March 5th.

Mom is opening her own cans of beer. Obviously this is the development she is most proud of!

  • Showering

Mom is now showering by herself!

  • Eyebrows and Makeup

Mom is able to pluck her eyebrows and put on her makeup (luckily for me!)

  • Overnight Alone

Mom has been spending more time alone and even spent an entire night on her own recently. She is doing great!

  • Dishwasher and Laundry

Mom has unloaded the dishwasher and done a few loads of laundry.

  • Walking

Mom's longest walk happened in Florida where we walked 2.2 miles.

  • FUTURE GOALS

Upcoming goals mom wants to work on are fully dressing and undressing herself on her own and doing her own hair.

Here are recent photos of mom. We took a two week trip to Florida to visit grandma and grandpa. Mom even went back to the beach and felt the water. She is one tough lady!

  • The Day That Changed Everything

On August 9th, Lynette was on a family vacation in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. Lynette and her husband Denny entered the ocean as they have done hundreds of times before. They were enjoying their time in the water before noticing a large wave coming toward them. Lynette saw the wave but wasn't able to duck in time and was taken over by the wave. The wave pushed her to the ocean floor where she hit her face and upon impact, was instantly paralyzed from the neck down. Denny heroically swam to her and got her face out of the water and with the help of her family, they got Lynette to shore where 911 was quickly called.

With the help of her family, Lynette was carried from the beach and navigated through their beach house to an ambulance. Lynette was taken to Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Lynette had severe swelling on her spine in the C4-C6 area. Doctors performed surgery on August 10th to relieve the swelling in her spine. The surgery went as expected and the doctor expects Lynette to make a full recovery.

Lynette is sharing her story to keep her friends and family up to date on her road to recovery. Please continue to follow along as we watch her make the journey from paralysis to push-ups as she overcomes the wave.
